Join the Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens on Saturday, April 21st for our annual Earth Day event, held in partnership with the Anacostia Watershed Society. We will spend the morning removing invasive plants, picking up trash, planting native plants, and performing other park projects.
WHEN: Saturday, April 21st, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Registration opens at 8:30am, please arrive no later than 8:45am. Meet up is at the maintenance yard within the park. We will meetup in the maintenance yard within the park.
WHERE: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, 1550 Anacostia Ave Northeast, Washington, DC 20019. By Car: Enter the park at the Anacostia Ave entrance to access the free visitors parking lot. By Metro: Kenilworth is accessible via the Deanwood Metro stop (orange line)
WHAT: Volunteers will work either in the greenhouse potting and planting, sharpening tools, or outside clearing invasive plants. The event will run rain or shine—please dress accordingly and plan to work outside.
BRING WITH YOU: Please wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and long-sleeved shirts. Be prepared to work outside! Please also bring your own water bottle and sunscreen.
OTHER: We encourage families and students to join us. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone, parent or guardian, with a 3:1 ratio. This event is eligible for Student Service Learning (SSL) hours.
