This event is part of the Anacostia Watershed Society's 2018 Earth Day Cleanup. 

Come join Friends of Quincy Run for a comprehensive cleanup of this one mile long tidal Tributary of the Anacostia. If you have been on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, you have probably crossed this interesting stream - the southern border of the Bladensburg Waterfront Park.

Though the stream is urban and considered to be degraded, the riparian area and stream environments are home to many species of plants and animals. Nature Parks are located at the headwaters and confluence. These areas will enhance the greenway as a destination, and their preservation and improvement will contribute to regional efforts to improve our river.

Participants of our past cleanups are surprised to find this unique habitat tucked into a struggling neighborhood. People unfamiliar with our part of the watershed are exposed to the culture of the Port Towns. The diversity of our residents create a unique area which includes home grown ethnic restaurants, surprising recreational activities and creative business opportunities accessible to all regardless of financial means.

Recent work of Friends of Quincy Run, through grants and service projects, are beginning to make a difference. Stream and riparian restoration projects are underway and hopes are high that this greenway will become a community asset and serene destination along the Riverwalk Trail. We invite you to join our diverse and committed community as we do our part to restore the Anacostia Watershed. Once a thriving port and recreational destination, the Port Towns, of which Bladensburg is one have continued to decline since the turn of the 20th century. Degradation of the river and poor land use practices have robbed the communities of their historic heritage. Our efforts contribute to a larger movement to restore a healthy environment to this watershed and all its inhabitants. Be a part of the rebirth of the Port Towns. The Port Towns have declared themselves an eco-district. The combined efforts of many community organizations are helping residents forge a future built upon our unique environment and community.
