Capturing the Anacostia River

To mark the Year of the Anacostia—an effort to celebrate the rich history of the Anacostia River and progress toward its cleanup and sustainable health—the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum opens the photographic exhibition, “Capturing the Anacostia River,” that offers a rich portrait of the river and the residents that live along it. Building upon the Museum’s longstanding Urban Waterways Initiative, which researches and raises awareness about the multi-faceted relationships between urban waterways and their surrounding communities, this exhibition draws on a decade of documentation to present moments which challenge stigmatizing narratives about the life of the Anacostia River and its people.

Opening 9/6/2018.
