Project: Join the Anacostia Watershed Society and Actaeon for a 10th Anacostia River Bioblitz event on the Anacostia River to explore the tidal marshes of the river. During this event, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna and some of the restoration efforts that have been going on at this site. The Anacostia River Fringe Wetlands, is a freshwater tidal marsh reconstructed along the mainstem of the Anacostia River during the summer of 2003. The restoration project was designed and implemented by the US Army Corps of Engineers (Baltimore District) together with the District's Department of Energy and the Environment on National Park Service land. More recently AWS and Actaeon have been enhancing these tidal marshes by removing the invasive grass Phragmites and revegetating with native wetland plants like Wild rice and American Lotus.
Physical Level of Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult
This event will involve lifting, bending, and walking on uneven surfaces and in mud. Participants will be expected to wear closed-toed shoes for the duration of the event. If you think any of the physical requirements will be problematic, please let us know.
