Learn How to Help Address Road Salt Pollution on Sept 5!

Road salt keeps roads and sidewalks safer during winter. Unfortunately, it can be overapplied and once enters the environment, it is almost impossible to remove and can have major impacts on our infrastructure, wildlife, and drinking water. You can help test water near you and submit the results to help local officials reduce excessive salt and pollution. On September 5 at 7:30, Abby Hilema, Izaak Walton League of America's Salt Watch Coordinator, will speak about Salt Watch, a nationwide program mobilizing community members to monitor road salt pollution runoff in local waterways. Join us to learn why road salt is a problem for our streams and drinking water and what you can do to help! Register here

About our speaker: Abby Hileman has been with the Izaak Walton League of America since August 2022 leading the efforts of Salt Watch—expanding the program into new regions across the country, reaching new groups of volunteers, and providing resources to make lasting change. Abby received her B.S. in Biology from Allegheny College and believes that small scale actions add up to make a big impact on conservation success.
