Save the trees and the stream valley ecosystem
Join Ellen, Weed Warrior Supervisor, for a non-native, invasive plant removal workday in Sligo Stream Valley at Hillwood Manor Neighborhood Park(opens in a new tab) in Takoma Park, MD. We will meet at the Lower Hillwood Manor Community Garden, just south of the New Hampshire Sligo Creek Parkway intersection (after the bridge). Street parking is available along 13th Ave and Elson St near the Hillwood Manor Neighborhood Park Playground. After parking, walk up Sligo Creek Trail towards New Hampshire Ave until you see us. (RAIN DATE: Friday Nov 3rd, 10:30am to 12:00pm.)
We will focus on non-native, invasive vines and shrubs, including porcelainberry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata), English ivy (Hedera helix), wisteria (Wisteria sinensis and Wisteria floribunda), multiflora rose (Rosa multiflora), and bush honeysuckle (mainly Lonicera maackii). Native Virginia creeper and poison ivy are also present and beneficial, so we will avoid those.
