Weed Warrior Workday at Fleming Local Park

Save the trees and the Rock Creek Stream Valley tributary

Join Mike, Weed Warrior Supervisor, for a non-native, invasive plant removal volunteer event in Fleming Local Park(opens in a new tab) in Bethesda, MD. Mike will meet volunteers in the parking lot and then walk to the work site. We will focus on non-native, invasive vines that are overtopping valuable mature and young trees, including porcelainberry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata) and Asian bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus). The park includes a tributary that flows into nearby Rock Creek Park and is home to deer, fox, and other wildlife.

Please wear long pants that cover your ankles, long sleeves, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Bring gloves, pruners, small folding hand saws and/or loppers if you have them. Gloves and tools are available to borrow if you don’t have your own. No power tools or machetes allowed. Please bring water to drink. Please note: Court Ordered Volunteer Hours can’t be granted through this workday.

This event is capped at 15 people.

This workday is pre-approved for MCPS SSL hours. Volunteers must be 16 years or older to join this event. If you wish to bring a child younger than 16 to volunteer at this event with you, please contact Weed Warrior Supervisor Mike for approval.
