Join Anacostia River Explorers to learn about the Anacostia River’s history, wildlife, the environmental threats it faces, and the solutions helping it realize its full potential. These free, guided boat tours launch from a variety of locations up and down the Anacostia River, and are funded by the District’s disposable bag fee.

Who can go on Anacostia River Explorers?
Pretty much everyone! Tours can accommodate minors (K – 12) with chaperones, the vessel is wheelchair accessible (as are some of the launching locations, see below), and those needing translation services are welcome but should request such in advance.
Where do they leave from?
Tours leave from a variety of locations up and down the Anacostia. Check out this map for locations of the main launching locations, which include:
- Anacostia Park
- Diamond Teague Park (wheelchair accessible)
- Bladensburg Waterfront Park
How many people can go on the tour?
Each tour can take 20 people.
How much does it cost?
All tours are free courtesy of DOEE through the plastic bag fee.
Public and private tours are available. Email the Anacostia Riverkeeper to request reservations for a specific public tour or to request more information about scheduling a private tour for a group of 15 or more. Full Tour: 2 hours, Partial Tour: 1 hour.
