Kingman and Heritage islands are located in the Anacostia River. Both islands are built from dredged material from the Anacostia. Despite their unusual beginnings, these islands have been chosen to be a model nature preserve. A lot of efforts have been deployed to remove invasive species. On this walk we will concentrate on tree, bush and plant ids using tree bark, buds, branch structures, desiccated fruit and dead leaves.  

Join the Maryland Native Plant Society for a field trip through the islands with Vincent Verweij, Allen Browne and Claudine Lebeau. This will be the 155th walk in the Wild Washington series.

Bring:  Boots, identification guides, binoculars, magnifying glass, water, lunch/snacks and a garbage bag to sit on.
